Five Alarm High Holidays: Fire & Emergency Service Paradigms Help Us Understand Repentance, Prayer and Tzedakah

U'netaneh Tokef provides a formula to move us from a state of helplessness and bound to fate to a state of responsiveness, responsibility and destiny. We will examine tshuvah, tfillah and tzedakah as spiritual practices through the lens of fire & emergency services paradigms - responding to emergencies, fire prevention and creating better systems to sustain life safety. I was inspired by my work with the International Association of Fire Chiefs before becoming a rabbi. I look forward to examining our tradition through the lens of the meaningful work the emergency services whom we will honor in this session.
